Unrivalled Coastline

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is renowned as one of the most well-known National Trails in the United Kingdom. It crosses diverse landscapes, encompassing steep cliffs made of limestone, picturesque bays with red sandstone, and breathtaking sandy beaches. To cater specifically to walkers, the Coastal Bus Services operate throughout the year, allowing visitors to conveniently travel a few miles along the coast and then return on foot.

Pembrokeshire, notably its Coastal National Park, boasts an untouched environment that provides a habitat for a wide array of wildlife. Dolphin, porpoise, and seal-watching boat trips are highly sought after, as are excursions to the nearby islands. Skomer, Skokholm, Ramsey, Grassholm, and Caldey can be explored, offering the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring sight of thousands of puffins, guillemots, gannets, and other seabirds.

Where to go in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire has a rich history, with evidence of early inhabitation seen in Pentre Ifan, the largest and best-preserved Neolithic burial chamber in Wales. The county has been a site of conflict for centuries, with many trying to invade. This has resulted in the presence of numerous castles, including the impressive examples at Carew and Pembroke, the latter being the birthplace of Henry VII.

There are several towns and villages in Pembrokeshire that are worth exploring. Some of these include St. Dogmaels, located on the Northern tip of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, as well as Newport, Fishguard, Broad Haven, Little Haven, St. Davids, Solva, Tenby, Saundersfoot, and Amroth.

If you venture inland, you will come across Pembroke, which is known for its castle that dominates the skyline. Narberth is a favourite among food enthusiasts and antique hunters, while Haverfordwest serves as the county town.

Beaches in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire boasts the only coastal National Park in Britain, encompassing a diverse array of beaches. Certain beaches are conveniently accessible and perfect for families, while others are more remote and provide tranquillity and isolation. They all offer excellent swimming opportunities and various additional activities, including water sports, beach games, exploring rock pools, or simply relaxing under the warm sun.

Choose from the stunning Barafundle Bay with its vast expanse of Golden sand. Gently sloping sand dunes back the beach, and the sea is usually calm and crystal clear.

Visiting Tenby North Beach is a must, and the beach stands out easily in Tenby due to the prominent Goscar Rock that juts out from the sand in the middle of the shoreline. This beach is highly revered in the area and is nestled between Harbour Beach and the graceful North Cliffs.

Whitesands is aptly named due to its long expanse of white sand that extends towards the north in the direction of St. David’s Head. Another name for this beach is Porthmawr, which translates to Big Harbour in Welsh.

There are plenty of other beaches from Freshwater East and West, Marloes Sands, Saundersfoot and Poppit, to name a few.
