The 28th of February is a day to celebrate here in Wales as it is officially Cambrian Mountains Day. A day for us to relish in the area of astounding natural beauty. So let us take you through everything we know and love about the Cambrian Mountains.

Area of Astounding Natural Beauty

In 2022 the Cambrian Mountains were officially declared an Area of Astounding Natural Beauty. And it is not hard to understand why, it truly is a beautiful area! Surrounded by the counties of Ceredigion, Powys and Carmarthenshire, and encircled by three national parks. This is a landscape which is steeped in Welsh history and heritage, and where agriculture, language and culture are entwined.

Dark Skies

The Cambrian Mountains contain some of the darkest skies in Europe. With shimmering clouds, a myriad of stars in the black skies and the Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon. If there should be anything on your bucket list for 2023 it is definitely to see the dark skies. Stargazing is a captivating experience that allows you to be one with nature, something a phone or TV can not replicate. We can’t imagine a better place to stargaze. You’ll be blown away by the ‘Astounding Natural Beauty.’

Trails

If all of this sounds interesting to you so far, The Cambrian Mountains have wonderful trails to ensure you get the best experience of witnessing the astounding natural beauty for yourself. The 50-mile self-guided Cambrian Mountains Astro Trail which connects to some of the best Dark Sky locations allows for nine varied trails which zigzag from south to north over the Cambrian Mountains. Discover astounding trails with rivers and woodlands, waterfalls and mountain peaks. Wild and welcoming. You’ll get closer to nature by day and to the stars at night.
