Maes y Gorlan (‘Home Field) is a converted stone barn just outside Nebo, near Aberystwyth. Set on a quiet country lane and surrounded by farmland, this is a lovely cottage for a family holiday. There is plenty of open space for children to play, and for you to relax amidst the peace of the countryside, or enjoy a summer barbeque. The owners are a young Welsh-speaking farming family and there will be a warm Welsh welcome upon your arrival. Why not come and learn a few Welsh words!
There are food shops in the local villages of Llanrhystud and Llanon, and for eating out The Hungry Ram is a family-friendly bar and grill in nearby Penuwch. Explore Llanrhystud Beach, visit the colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron 15 minutes away, and from here drive through the beautiful Aeron valley to the National Trust manor house at Llanerchaeron – or walk to it along the path of the old railway line.
Less than 10 minutes from the Ceredigion coast road, Maes y Gorlan is a comfortable base for exploring the whole of West Wales’ spectacular coast, unspoilt countryside and remote mountains. The seaside resort of Aberystwyth, with its castle, museums, Arts Centre, pubs, restaurants, funicular railway and Camera Obscura is about 20 minutes away. You can ride the old steam train to Devil’s Bridge, or it is just over half an hour to the ancient Cistercian Abbey at Strata Florida with Teifi Pools and the Cambrian Mountains beyond.
