Heatherton World of Adventures, Pembrokeshire

For more action-packed fun, head to Heatherton World of Adventures just outside of Tenby. This family-friendly centre provides a chance to try your hand at all kinds of exciting activities with adventure golf, indoor soft play, archery, paintballing, go karting, high ropes courses and escape rooms just to name a few.

The Welsh Wildlife Centre, Pembrokeshire

Head to the Welsh Wildlife Centre and Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve outside of Cardigan for a fantastic day learning all about the local environment and the animals that call it home. There are four themed natural trails around the reserve to explore, so keep your eyes out for kingfisher, otter and various wading birds. The Glasshouse Cafe is ideal if you and the kids need to recharge.

The Bug Farm, Pembrokeshire

Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm in St Davids is a research and visitor centre about all things bugs, making for a pretty unique half-term activity! The numerous indoor and outdoor exhibits include a tropical bug zoo, bug museum, indoor play barn and farm trail which meanders through meadow, wetland and woodland.

True to its roots in sustainable agriculture, the attraction’s Grub Kitchen cafe has numerous edible insect items on the menu. Although if you’d rather go with something a little more familiar, there are plenty of non-insect options too!

Castell Henllys, Pembrokeshire

Travel back in time to this Iron Age village in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Castell Henllys is made up of reconstructed roundhouses as they would have stood on the same site 2,000 years ago. Here, you can learn all about the life of the Demetae tribe, with talks, demonstrations and costumed villagers.

During half term week, the centre is putting on their Experience the Iron Age event, inviting you to immerse yourself in the area’s rich history. Meet members of the tribe, watch demonstrations of ancient crafts and have a go with a slingshot!

National Botanic Garden of Wales, Carmarthenshire

Set in the River Tywi valley, the gardens here are lovely to visit at any time of year. With the spectacular Great Glasshouse hosting a range of endangered plants that enjoy a Mediterranean climate and 500 acres of nature reserve to explore, there’s loads to see and do.

The Gruffalo Trail, featuring several sculptures of familiar faces from the beloved book, is also a particular favourite among families and younger children.

A great spot for nature photography and getting away from it all, this is the ideal day out if you and the family need a breath of fresh air. Explore wildlife walks and over 450 acres of stunning wetland landscape. The wetlands are also home to a flock of flamingos – a surprising but exciting sight!

The centre is hosting their Mudfest event during February half term, which celebrates the messy fun of mud with hands-on activities like the muddy obstacle course, mud kitchen and mudslinging contest. It’s all about connecting with nature and getting creative.

National Library of Wales, Ceredigion

Explore the vibrant stories and history of Wales at the National Library in Aberystwyth. Not only is it full of books, but kids can also enjoy a range of activities and colouring sheets as well as a programme of intriguing events and exhibits throughout the year.

Exhibitions taking place during half term include Portrait and Power, which invites a deeper look at portraiture, along with the library’s permanent exhibits exploring the history and treasures of Wales.
